Sensitivity Decreasing, 1st Camp and Real PT

I am not sure why I keep forgetting how quickly progress occurs with a fixator.

  • On Thursday after the partial removal Mary couldn't handle a bed sheet on her foot,
  • On Friday night I could touch Mary's foot again,
  • On Saturday we were able to get a sock on it, and
  • 1st time wearing a sock since May 10
  • On Sunday she was able to touch the front portion on the ground.

Today Mary had a big day. She attended her first summer camp. She has essentially been stuck at home with her parents since May 10. It was so nice for her to be rattling on about her day even if it was for only 2 1/2 hours since we weren't sure what her endurance would be and she had PT in the afternoon.

Once again we were pleasantly surprised how nice complete strangers have been through this whole experience. The teacher who has never met Mary or us is very laid back and accommodating about the whole situation. Tomorrow we are going to see if Mary is up for the whole day. (It's a sewing class and everyone moves at their own pace- maybe she can adapt her own clothes soon! :-)

Today she also had her first PT session since the partial removal and per my hubby- they worked her. The PT said she can either have her knee bent or her foot bent but they both can't be bent at the same time. So when she sits down now we either have her leg propped out in front of her on a chair to keep her leg straight or her foot propped on a slight slant to work towards getting it straight.

Close up of the PT extension above

Knee is bent so working on pushing her foot up to neutral vs. pointed down

PT also gave us an ace bandage to wrap her foot in to reduce swelling from the partial removal.

The PT told Mary there is no excuse to regress now that we aren't lengthening anymore (her knee is at a -30 degrees and the goal is 0 degrees)...as we suspected now the real hard PT work begins...
